Aerodynamic Kenworth T660 Enjoys Early Success, Earns Customer Praise with Performance, Features

DALLAS, Texas.– Kenworth is writing a new chapter in industry-leading aerodynamics with the new Kenworth T660.

“Acceptance of Kenworth’s new flagship truck has been outstanding and customers are enjoying increased productivity, excellent fuel economy and great driver response,” said Gary Moore, assistant general manager for marketing and sales.

“The Kenworth T660 also has been recognized as a SmartWay™ program eligible truck model by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is a great compliment to the T660’s state-of-the-art aerodynamics and fuel efficiency,” said Moore. “As for 2007 engines, they are working very well in the field and customers are happy with the performance and fuel economy.”

According to Jeff Foster, chief executive officer of Jeff Foster Trucking in Superior, Wis., “We’re sold on the Kenworth T660 and the new engines. The T660 is fuel efficient and offers a great image for our fleet,” Foster said. The fleet is expected to receive up to 40 T660 this year and has divisions in flatbeds and vans, petroleum transport, heavy and oversized hauling, aggregate transport, and forestry transport.

“I get about 6 percent better fuel mileage with my new Kenworth T660,” said owner-operator Mikhail Lesko, a Missoula-based heavy hauler, when comparing his new T660 to his previous truck. “At that rate, I’ll save about $4,000 in fuel costs after one year. That’s two months worth of truck payments. I’m getting the best mileage I’ve ever had and I’m proud to be doing something good for the environment by running a truck with a cleaner burning engine.”

Jeff Hall, president of J&R Hall Transport in Ayr, Ontario, noted that his drivers have commented about little things on the T660 that make driving a better experience. “As an example, the fold-away armrests give the guys four extra inches to get through to the sleeper area. It’s the little details that Kenworth addresses – they all add up to make a better truck,” Hall said.

Kenworth’s new headlamp system has also gained a loyal following. “When driving at night we’re always on edge – we might see 20 or more deer per night on the road. It can be stressful,” said veteran J&R Hall driver Toby Hofer. “With Kenworth’s new lighting system, the beam is wider and shoots out much farther – and that’s with low beam. The high beam is really incredible.”

Adds Doug Mitchell, driver of the initial Kenworth T660 delivered to Jeff Foster Trucking, “I couldn’t ask for anything better. I really like the T660’s new aerodynamic styling and the headlight system is fantastic. When you put on the high beams it’s as if you’re driving during the day. Amazing.”

In addition to the advanced forward-lighting system, the Kenworth T660 features technologies such as Kenworth GPS Navigation, Kenworth Driver Information Center, and an enhanced electrical system for even greater reliability.

The Kenworth T660 is available in various sleeper options and in a day cab configuration with a Kenworth Extended Day Cab option available. The T660 with 72-inch AeroCab® sleeper is available with the new, optional Kenworth Clean Power™ no-idle system.
