WEBWIRE

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS.- IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Omron today announced a seven-year strategic services contract for IBM to manage Omron’s information technology (IT) infrastructure operations in Europe.
Omron is an international company involved in a variety of fields including: industrial automation, electronic components, automotive electronics, social systems and healthcare. In line with Omron’s global strategy to concentrate on its core business in order to reduce costs and grow revenue, the company has selected IBM to manage its IT infrastructure.

IBM is responsible for the transition of the Omron environment to the IBM data center in Brussels, building a new client platform, migrating all end users to a new server-based computing environment, data center management and services, helpdesk, workplace services and technical application management.

“IBM has a long lasting relationship with Omron headquarters in Japan, in which relationship outsourcing contracts have already been in place for 13 years. The intention to expand this partnership to a global level has recently been captured in a Memorandum of Understanding. The trust that Omron and IBM have built in Japan is now expanded into a deepened partnership in Europe,” says Mr. Roberto Maietti, President and CEO of Omron Europe B.V.

“We’re pleased to expand the good relationship with Omron,” said Harry van Dorenmalen, CEO IBM Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. “IBM will draw on the breadth of its technology services and cross-industry expertise to support Omron’s business strategy.”

Twenty-three Omron employees from the Netherlands, Germany, France, United Kingdom and Spain will join IBM. The agreement was signed at the end of May 2007.

In addition, IBM Japan and Omron Corporation recently extended by five-years its existing system operation outsourcing agreement, which expires in March 2008, to support Omron’s IT-centered structural reforms using IBM’s global delivery.
