Event will focus on positioning Midwest communities for success

Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, wants to help Midwest communities get ready, get set, and go for it when it comes to economic development. The utility company plans to host an interactive, one-day workshop called Ready, Set, Go! in Portage, Wisconsin, on October 3, 2007.

David Beurle, founder and managing director of Innovative Leadership Australia, a company specializing in rural leadership and innovative rural community economic development in Australia, will facilitate the workshop. The session is designed for elected officials, community/business leaders and young professionals in Midwest communities.

“Beurle’s mission is to bring the tools and skills necessary for success to the people who care the most – those who choose to make rural communities and regions their home,” said WPL President Barb Swan. “He will teach communities how to reinvent themselves and create vibrant and prosperous regions.”

The workshop will run from 8:45 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Best Western Resort Hotel & Conference Center. Through an interactive process, workshop attendees will:

* Evaluate their community
* Examine the challenges and trends facing smaller communities
* Determine actions to shape a thriving future for their community

“One of the most significant ways we can help communities succeed is through partnership and education,” added Swan. “This Ready, Set, Go! workshop promises to be an information-packed day where community leaders can connect with one another, share ideas and leave with practical advice on improving their communities. I hope many community leaders will participate.”
