Mexican Students Win International Stockholm Junior Water Prize

Mexican students Adriana Alcántara Ruiz, Dalia Graciela Díaz Gómez and Carlos Hernández Mejía were awarded the prestigious 2007 Stockholm Junior Water Prize, sponsored globally by ITT Corporation, in a formal ceremony during World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden. The three students from the Cultural Institute of Paideia in Toluca, Mexico, received the prize from HRH Crown Princess Victoria on behalf of the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) for developing a process using eggshell to remove lead pollutants from industrial wastewater. The group of students received a $5,000 scholarship and a crystal sculpture.
