Alibaba Chief Database Administrator Becomes Oracle’s 100th ACE Worldwide

WEBWIRE

Oracle announced today that Feng Chun Pei, Chief Database Administrator (DBA) from Alibaba, the largest e-commerce company in China, has received the 100th Oracle ACE award.
The Oracle ACE program is an initiative by Oracle to foster the growing Oracle developer community by formally recognizing Oracle advocates with strong credentials as evangelists and educators in that community. Oracle ACEs are technically proficient and eager to share their experiences, whether through writing books, articles, or blogs, speaking at events, or participating in Oracle Technology Network Discussion Forums. Candidates are nominated by anyone in the Oracle technical community on an ongoing basis and ratified by a nomination committee.

Feng is the 100th Oracle ACE worldwide and one of eight ACEs in China, the country with the most ACEs in Asia Pacific. This Oracle ACE award brings the total number of Asia Pacific ACEs to 18 - a number that is expected to double in the coming years.

Feng received the award for his community leadership, which includes 19,000 posts on ITPUB, one of China’s largest technical forums, more than a dozen technical articles, and the co-authoring of two Chinese-language books for Oracle DBAs (“Oracle DBA Best Practices” and “Oracle Database Performance Tuning”).

As a technical instructor and resident expert at ITPUB, Feng teaches the finer points of Oracle system structure, backup and recovery, SQL optimization, and system performance. He also chairs “Oracle lovers” gatherings throughout China. At this year’s Oracle Develop, held in conjunction with Oracle OpenWorld Asia Pacific in Shanghai, Feng will share his tips on tuning SQL for optimal performance on Oracle Databases.

Recognized as one of “China’s 2006 Outstanding Database Engineers” by a group of major Chinese IT publications and academic societies, Feng said, “Oracle’s insistence on open standards, security, scalability and high performance have always met with my personal principles for software development. I am delighted to receive this honor from Oracle.”

“China has one of the most vibrant software communities in the world,” said Roger Li, regional managing director for Oracle Greater China. “Through initiatives such as the Oracle ACE program, Oracle seeks to promote the exchange of technical knowledge among the Oracle community by recognizing active contributors like Feng.”
