AT&T Summer Soccer Fever Heats Up with Teams from Mexico and the U.S. MLS Meeting in SuperLiga Tournament

A long-standing rivalry between pro soccer teams in Mexico and the United States will be played out this summer during the first-ever SuperLiga tournament. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has announced that fans can witness all of the action through their wireless phones, at AT&T stores and on the field. AT&T is an official sponsor of the event and continues its tradition of bringing the best of soccer to customers and to the soccer fan base in the U.S.

During the tournament, which starts today and ends on Aug. 29, AT&T customers will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of SuperLiga on their wireless phones with scores, game highlights, goal alerts, ringtones, wallpapers, player photos, team logos, news and updates — all available for downloading. At AT&T’s 600 bilingual stores nationwide, customers will be able to get information in Spanish about SuperLiga and access to special offers.

Univision’s Emmy-winning sports anchor Fernando Fiore and Mexican national team players, including Luis Garcia and Ramon Morales, will visit AT&T stores in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. — all cities where games will be played. The soccer stars will be there to cheer along with fans, give away game tickets and sign autographs. SuperLiga matches will be broadcast on Univision.

“Soccer is the sport of choice for our U.S. Hispanic customers. They are passionate fans and steadfast followers of their favorite teams,” said Roberto Garcia, executive director of Hispanic Marketing for AT&T’s wireless unit. “We know SuperLiga is a dream tournament for many, and we are truly excited to offer our customers the opportunity to experience all of the excitement and not miss a beat on Beckham’s U.S. debut versus some of Mexico’s strongest teams.”

The SuperLiga tournament will pit Mexican club teams America, CD Guadalajara, Morelia and Pachuca against MLS teams FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, DC United and LA Galaxy, which is David Beckham’s new home. The first games will be played today at Pizza Hut Park in Dallas and Los Angeles Home Depot Stadium to sold-out crowds. Game schedules can be found at www.univision.com (SuperLiga) or www.mls.net.

At each match, AT&T will offer interactive Fan Zones, where fans and AT&T customers and potential customers can participate in games. Select matches will use AT&T phone booths, where fans can have fun taking pictures at a booth with Beckham’s likeness and access AT&T content. Soccer fans also will have the opportunity to check out the latest Motorola phones, which will be on display from AT&T.

During the game, AT&T customers will have the chance to text their votes for each game’s most valuable player. The results will be displayed on stadium video screens, and an award will be given to the MVP at the end of each match.

AT&T is a leader in providing Hispanics with relevant, in-language content on their wireless phones. In 2006, customers were able to get cutting-edge content about the World Cup and to interact with their favorite Mexican players at AT&T’s bilingual stores around the nation.
