Ericsson wins IMS contract with Telenor in Sweden

WEBWIRE

July 11, 2007, Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has announced an agreement with Telenor in Sweden to build an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem)-based network in Sweden, including IMS-based IP Centrex. This will be the first commercial converged IMS network in Sweden for the enterprise market.

The Ericsson IMS multimedia telephony system will provide new, value-added services to Telenor Sweden’s network, with the main focus on a fixed and mobile converged IP Centrex application targeting enterprise customers in the first phase. In the coming phases, Telenor and Ericsson intend to jointly develop the Swedish market up to a leading position in the area of converged services based on IMS, for both enterprises and consumers.

The solution will be a first step in enabling Telenor to utilize their network capabilities for all their Swedish operations, including Bredbandsbolaget and Glocalnet, in an efficient way. The solution incorporates a new, innovative way to integrate IMS solutions with a number of businesses by utilizing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles.

Johan Lindgren, CEO Telenor Sweden, says: “IMS is one of the key elements in our migration to an all-IP network, with convergence in both services and network. Also, our customers will benefit significantly from a truly converged experience for fixed, VoIP and mobile. We are happy to continue our strong cooperation with Ericsson on this.”

Mikael Bäckström, President of Ericsson Nordic and Baltic, says: “We are very pleased to support Telenor in such a strategically important step. This agreement yet again demonstrates our strong commitment and capabilities in helping our customers achieve sustained business growth and stay competitive into the future.”

Ericsson will be the prime supplier of the IMS system and system integration services for Telenor Sweden. Delivery has started and the network commercial launch is planned for later in 2007.

Ericsson is the leader in the IMS area with 37 IMS system contracts for commercial launch and an additional 80 trials, distributed around the world.
