Verizon Expands FiOS TV Availability in Newport News, Virginia Beach

WEBWIRE

More than 15,000 additional households now can drop their cable provider for good, as Verizon expands its industry-leading FiOS TV service in Newport News and Virginia Beach.

Since Verizon began offering FiOS TV in Virginia Beach in January and Newport News in April, nearly 70,000 households have an alternative for their cable TV service. FiOS TV is delivered over the nation’s most advanced all-fiber-optic network straight to customers’ homes.

“FiOS TV and FiOS Internet services have been an extraordinary hit with consumers in Newport News and Virginia Beach,” said Robert W. Woltz Jr., president of Verizon Virginia. “New customers tell us they love the speed of FiOS Internet service and the superior picture quality of FiOS TV. Now more Hampton Roads residents can become FiOS fans.”

Consumers can check online at www.verizon.com/fiostv to see if FiOS TV is already available in their area or to request that Verizon contact them when FiOS TV is available. Consumers also can call their local Verizon sales office or

Customer Feedback about FiOS Services Is Positive

Customer reaction to Verizon’s FiOS services has been very positive, with broadband and TV subscribers rapidly increasing in markets in Virginia and across the country. In addition to Newport News and Virginia Beach, Verizon currently offers FiOS Internet and TV services in much of Northern Virginia and the Richmond area. The company also has begun construction of its all-fiber network in Chesapeake.

Nationwide, Verizon offers FiOS Internet service in more than 1,700 communities in the 16 states where the company’s new network is deployed. Verizon currently offers FiOS TV service to 3.1 million households in 11 states: California, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia.

And customers are responding to the superior reliability, quality and speed of FiOS services. More than 1 million customers nationwide now have FiOS Internet connections, and nearly 500,000 have FiOS TV.

Superior Network, Awesome Services

Companies that install all-fiber networks gain other advantages in addition to new and superior services for customers. For example, fiber offers reliable service in stretches of wet weather that can affect copper-based networks.

Verizon’s fiber network allows the company to offer consumers and businesses crystal-clear voice service and high-speed FiOS Internet service at download speeds of up to 30 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of up to 5 Mbps.* In addition, FiOS TV offers a broad collection of all-digital programming, 23 high-definition channels in the Hampton Roads market, 8,600 video-on-demand titles and more. Fiber delivers amazingly sharp pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from the TV screen. Only Verizon’s network has earned the certification of the independent Fiber to the Home Council for providing fiber all the way to customers’ homes.

Verizon has developed attractive new packages featuring FiOS Internet and FiOS TV products. For example, a three-service package featuring Verizon’s Freedom Essentials calling plan, FiOS Internet service at 5 Mbps downstream and FiOS TV Premier, Verizon’s lead TV offer, is available for as little as $99.99 a month with a two-year commitment.

Sports fans subscribing to FiOS TV Premier also will receive Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN and MASN 2) at no extra charge. MASN carries the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Ravens and various NCAA teams.

Verizon offers three set-top boxes: standard definition for $4.99 per month; high definition, which includes HD channels, for $9.99 per month; and a dual-tuner, HD-capable digital video recorder for $12.99 per month.

Verizon also offers innovative features not available from other providers, such as Home Media DVR (digital video recorder) and FiOS TV Widgets. Home Media DVR, at $19.99 per month, has a multiroom DVR feature enabling up to three simultaneous viewings of recorded programs without requiring customers to set up a complex home network or buy extra equipment. Customers also can access photos and music on their PCs and play them on their TVs. FiOS TV Widgets is a free interactive feature that provides viewers with local weather and traffic information while they’re watching their favorite shows.

The value of FiOS TV extends to the installation and customer support. Specially trained Verizon technicians will install the service and acquaint subscribers with FiOS TV features and services. Verizon is waiving the installation fee for up to three existing TV outlets, and there is no charge to install a needed optical network terminal at the subscriber’s home. Charges for other installation services, such as additional outlets, may apply. Verizon provides 24x7 technical assistance by phone from its specialized Fiber Solutions Centers, including a center located in Hampton.
