Grabner Minivol LVR Measures Vapor-Liquid Ratio Of Blended Gasoline As Required By ASTM D 4814

WEBWIRE

ALBANY, New York - The quality of nearly every drop of gasoline sold is tested to ASTM method D 4814 - the “Standard Specification for Automotive Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel.” One of the quality tests within this specification is the determination of a fuel’s vapor-liquid ratio (V/L), which helps consumers avoid vapor lock.

According to the standard’s specification, the V/L ratio for gasoline blended with oxygenates, such as ethanol, must be determined through direct measurement techniques. The MINIVOL LVR from Grabner Instruments is among the most accurate and reliable methods for making this direct measurement.

Unlike other instruments that simply provide a non-compliant estimate of V/L, the MINIVOL LVR provides the direct measurement required. It performs these measurements per ASTM D 5188 --the only mercury-free direct measurement technique accepted for gasoline blends containing ethanol and other oxygenates.

The compact MINIVOL LVR can precisely determine the V/L ratio over a wide temperature range (20o to 80oC or 68o to 176oF) and is fully automated, fast, portable, rugged and easy to operate. The unit also is suited for a wide range of non-viscous liquids, including gasoline, solvents and other highly volatile compounds and performs automatically using only a 5 ml sample, providing results in minutes. All that is required is an external vacuum source.

The MINIVOL LVR is available in North America from AMETEK Petrolab. Both Petrolab and Grabner Instruments are units of AMETEK Measurement & Calibration Technologies, a division of AMETEK, Inc. (NYSE:AME) a leading global manufacturer of electromechanical devices with annualized sales of more than $1.8 billion.
