MetaSwitch Expands Choice for Cable Operators Seeking Proven VoIP Solutions

WEBWIRE

MetaSwitch, a leading industry vendor of softswitch and applications solutions, today announced the completion of successful interoperability testing with broadband access equipment provider ARRIS (Nasdaq:ARRS), focused on the delivery of SIP-based business services and PacketCable 1.0 (NCS) signaling with dynamic quality of service (DQOS). The combination of the two vendors’ capabilities expands the range of options available to MSOs looking for an ultra-reliable end-to-end voice solution for the residential and business voice services market opportunity.

Leading cable operators across the country have already deployed MetaSwitch-based voice services with ARRIS Touchstone® E-MTAs as a means to deliver high quality VoIP services. Current customers of the combined solution include: Bresnan Communications; BroadRiver Communication Corp; Graceba Total Communications; Penasco Valley Telecommunications; and Big River Telephone. Several of these operators are also offering wholesale VoIP services to other carriers with the combined solution.

“We have been experiencing phenomenal growth in the cable voice market, and a large part of our success has been due to the rock-solid reliability and compelling features of the MetaSwitch platform in concert with ARRIS customer premise equipment,” said Kevin Keaveny, vice president of engineering and operations at Big River. “We are particularly pleased at the co-operation that exists between ARRIS and MetaSwitch to ensure a smooth experience for our consumer, small business and wholesale customers.”

As part of establishing the interoperability relationship, MetaSwitch has deployed an end-to-end network configuration within their lab to more effectively meet customers’ needs and ensure each customer deployment is successful. The relationship enables both companies to ensure ongoing interoperability between MetaSwitch’s CMS/CSCF and media/signaling gateway with the ARRIS C4® CMTS and Touchstone E-MTA products, as each company adds new features and functionality.

“The cable industry is all about providing choice to consumers. We believe MSOs should demand the same degree of choice when it comes to selecting their technology partners,” said Andrew Randall, vice president of marketing for MetaSwitch. “By working with leading cable infrastructure providers such as ARRIS, MetaSwitch is extending the range of choices available to MSOs for proven, reliable, fully-featured voice services encompassing basic telephone lines, digital trunks over IP, hosted PBX, and fixed/mobile convergence.”
