LIWEST Deploys BigBand’s CMTS Platform in Austria

WEBWIRE

BigBand Networks, Inc., (NASDAQ: BBND), today announced that LIWEST Kabelmedien GmbH, the second largest cable operator in Austria, has deployed its Cuda CMTS. LIWEST is using Cuda to deliver high-speed data and voice services to subscribers near the Austrian city of Linz.

“We decided to deploy Cuda because it gives us the flexibility to deploy cable modem and voice-over-IP services quickly and economically, with the flexibility to migrate to advanced services, such as IPTV over DOCSIS®, via M-CMTS,” said Hubert Riedl, officer and head of telekom service of LIWEST. “BigBand has provided exceptional support and customer service throughout our Cuda deployment.”

LIWEST has deployed Cuda as an integrated CMTS solution. The operator is also testing BigBand’s M-CMTS solution as part of the company’s early access program. BigBand’s M-CMTS changes the economics of broadband data delivery, enabling operators to increase access speeds at a relatively low cost per bit by migrating functionality traditionally performed by the CMTS onto a less expensive edge quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) platform.

“LIWEST continues the success rate we’ve enjoyed with our M-CMTS early access program,” said John Holobinko, vice president and manager of Cable IP for BigBand. “M-CMTS provides a highly economical path to increased speeds and advanced services, including IPTV.”

BigBand demonstrated the ability of its M-CMTS solution to deliver HDTV and VOD at ANGA Cable 2007 May 22-24. For additional information about BigBand Networks’ innovative M-CMTS solution, please visit http://www.bigbandnet.com/products/sol_mcmts.php.
