A new Borders store opened at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). This is the second store in the U.A.E for Borders, the global book brand which launched last November in Dubai’s prestigious Mall of the Emirates. The new store, which is 1,500 square feet, will cater to the needs of the business community and primarily those who work in this new financial centre of the city. A dedicated range of business and financial titles is on offer, together with a special order service through which customers may obtain books that are not available in the store. The new Borders also carries relevant magazines as well as local and international newspapers, and a selection of best-selling fiction titles.

DIFC is the world’s newest financial centre, and is primarily focused on the regions between Western Europe and East Asia. The financial centre is part of the wider vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the Government of Dubai. The centre has already attracted high caliber firms from around the globe and the GCC region. A world-class stock exchange, the Dubai International Financial Exchange (DIFX), opened in the DIFC in September 2005.

Dubai-based Al Maya Group operates the Borders franchise stores and is pleased to be expanding the brand in the region. “We are delighted with our flagship Borders store in Mall of the Emirates and are looking forward to more success at DIFC. With further stores planned this year in Muscat (Oman) and Deira City Centre (Dubai) we are confident Borders will become the number one book store in this region,” said Vivek Bahirwani, Group Director for Al Maya Group.

“Our company is very pleased with Al Maya Group’s representation of the Borders brand in the U.A.E. and we wish to thank the people of Dubai for supporting Borders with such enthusiasm,” said Borders Group Chief Executive Officer George Jones. “We believe the franchise model is the preferred business model for long-term expansion of the Borders brand outside of the United States and we look for excellent partners, such as Al Maya Group, to successfully carry our brand to new audiences around the world.”
