Siemens Medical Solutions Ultrasound Division www.usa.siemens.com/medical will introduce the 5.0 release of their ACUSON AntaresTM ultrasound platform at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Annual Meeting in San Diego, May 5-9.

The 5.0 release offers powerful innovations in five clinical application areas, including breast and OB/GYN imaging. Siemens’ eSie TouchTM elasticity imaging technology includes a speed-of-sound adaptation designed for fatty breast imaging, and bundles with Siemens’ Advanced SieClearTM spatial compounding, which provides an industry-leading 13 lines of sight applied at greater steering angles, as well as Dynamic TCETM tissue contrast enhancement technology providing speckle reduction and motion correction. For OB/GYN applications, the Antares 5.0 release offers Advanced fourSightTM technology, a comprehensive suite of acquisition, rendering, and post-processing tools, and syngo(R) Auto OB Measurements, to streamline and improve workflow. Amnioscopic rendering is another key innovation - this unique surface-rendering technique developed by Siemens Corporate Research provides stunningly realistic and detailed views of the fetus, enabling greater diagnostic confidence in 3D and 4D imaging.

With Advanced fourSight technology, users now have greater flexibility to analyze 2D, 3D and 4D studies. New features include MultiSlice Imaging, which displays a matrix of 2D images from any plane in a volume, just like on a computed tomography scanner, and Automated Volume Measurement for rapid segmentation and capture of volume measurements from any 3D volume.

To further improve OB workflow and clinical efficiency, Siemens’ syngo Auto OB Measurements software generates semi-automatic biometric fetal measurements for bi-parietal diameter, head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length. The software can shorten exam time by reducing keystrokes required for these measurements up to 75 percent, as well as improve departmental consistency by reducing operator variance.

Siemens will also showcase the newest member of its X Class family of products, the ACUSON X150TM ultrasound system. The system delivers an outstanding combination of diagnostic performance, ergonomics and scalability. Compact and portable, it is designed to fit the clinical needs of busy OB/GYN settings and grow as patient requirements or clinical applications evolve. Field upgradeability allows the user total flexibility to add sensitive color and power Doppler capabilities and a cardiac screening application. The ACUSON X150 features 3-ScapeTM real-time 3D imaging for the construction of real-time 3D images during free-hand acquisition. Its 15-inch flat panel display is mounted on an articulating arm providing a wide range of motion to achieve a comfortable scanning position, even when space is tight.

“With both our new systems, we are delivering optimized clinical applications for OB/GYN,” said Klaus Hambuechen, President of Siemens Medical Solutions Ultrasound Division. “Both provide unparalleled workflow optimization and high-throughput imaging with an imaging performance customers expect from a Siemens system.”
