Lord Browne won’t be the last casualty of homophobia - but gay business people can find real love

“Many of us thought that we had seen the end of the need to resign just because we are gay, ” said Stephen Coote, publisher of www.gaytoz.com, the gay search engine.

"The tragedy for Lord Browne is that he resigned not because he is gay, but because he felt so ashamed of how he met his boyfriend that he was prepared to lie to a court about it.

“Escort agencies are just one part of the incredible growth of openly gay and lesbian businesses in the last couple of decades, with 74 listed on www.gaytoz.com, plus some 540 independent escorts.” said Coote. “This has been supported by the growth of gay directories, magazines, business associations, and more recently staff networks for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered professionals.”

The GAY to Z Directory began as a telephone directory in 1993 with 1,100 entries. Last month, over 290,000 visitors searched 13,000 listings for everything from accountants to youth clubs, booking a gay-friendly hotel, or finding the nearest pub or club to visit tonight.

There are now hundreds on web contact and personals sites, regular speed dating nights in bars, specialist dating agencies, and a myriad of social and sports groups to suit every taste and age group. While it is clearly easy to find a casual sexual partner using the internet, it has also never been easier to find real love, using web searches to find a compatible gay soul-mate or partner with complimentary interests and tastes.

The interest in civil partnerships has led to over 141 businesses being listed on the GAYtoZ.com Wedding Directory to provide everything from tailor-made wedding invitations and photography, to wedding gifts and gay honeymoons.
