Ana Silvia Contreras Aims to Help Readers Find Overall Life Balance by Sharing “Missives of Wisdom from an Inmate”
A self-published author is on a mission to help her readers gain control of their lives, do better than the day before, and understand the things that really matter in life. The book revolves around an incarcerated father, Daniel, who writes letters to his wife, Alexia, and their son, Joel. The book illustrates the power of a father’s love and his determination to be a positive, lasting influence in his son’s life, despite being behind bars.
“Missives of Wisdom from an Inmate” by Ana Silvia Contreras will be displayed at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2025
Visitors to the 2025 Guadalajara International Book Fair should not miss the book display for “Missives of Wisdom from an Inmate,” an inspirational book with a blend of self-help and family story by Ana Silvia Contreras.
The book revolves around Daniel, who is serving time in a federal maximum-security prison, and has been absent from the life of his son, Joel. Joel thought Daniel had abandoned him until his mother, Alexia, presents him on his 18th birthday a bundle of letters from Daniel. Little did he know that Daniel has always been a constant influence in his life.
Determined that Joel will not make the same mistakes he did, Daniel dedicates himself to finding the wisdom needed to enable his son to find success in all aspects of life. So each year, Daniel writes two letters: one for Alexia and one for Joel. Each letter contains and builds on a life principle that Daniel asks Alexia to learn and pass on to their son.
“Missives of Wisdom from an Inmate” is based on the author’s own correspondence with her incarcerated first cousin, whom she loves very much.
“He is in prison serving a life sentence,” Contreras said of this cousin in the book’s preface, “…and I have learned so much from him. Thanks to him. I now appreciate life more than I ever did before. He has been in prison for almost 18 years, and he is truly a smart, witty, charismatic, humble, noble, wise, articulate man, and a great human being.”
Using her cousin’s story as inspiration for “Missives of Wisdom from an Inmate,” the author challenges and empowers her readers to rise, no matter how low they have fallen, and take control of their lives.
“You can still get up… and find the happiness that all of us have been seeking since we were small children. You can find inner peace and success in every aspect of your daily life. You can learn to find joy in giving, to love everyone, to forget wrongs and forgive everyone, which includes forgiving yourself.”
In one way or another, the author urges readers not to dismiss their stories of pain, loss, mistakes, and failures, but instead to learn from these experiences so that they can become the very best versions of themselves.
“I hope that you will enjoy everything I have to share, and that you will find value in my story and can share it with others to motivate them to get up and try again.”
“Missives of Wisdom from an Inmate” will be displayed by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the Guadalajara International Book Fair from November 29 to December 3, 2025, at booth GG40. The book fair, however, will run until December 7 at Expo Guadalajara, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
