Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, Michael Petricone today issued the following statement regarding the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) third periodic review of the conversion of the nation’s broadcast television systems from analog to digital television (DTV).

“We are pleased that the Commission is committed to ensuring the success of the digital transition and continues to make it a top priority as we approach the February 17, 2009 hard date. We agree with Commissioner Copps that ‘we have one opportunity to get this right.’ To this end, CEA has coordinated ongoing efforts to help consumers understand and prepare for all-digital broadcasting.

“CEA is committed to educating consumers, retailers, manufacturers and legislators about the transition to digital television. CEA’s continuous award-winning efforts include websites, printed collateral and media outreach. CEA currently operates various websites that promote the DTV transition through consumer (www.myCEknowhow.com) and retailer education (www.CEknowhow.com). CEA is also a founding member of the DTV Transition Coalition (www.digitalTVtransition.org) which works to ensure educational materials reach a broad U.S audience.

“Consumer education remains paramount to ensure the digital revolution reaches every American television household. We look forward to continuing our extensive consumer education efforts and to working with the FCC to ensure this happens successfully.”
