Canon CR-25 Color Duplex Check Scanner Speeds Merchant and Corporate Electronic Transactions

BOSTON - Canon U.S.A., Inc. has announced the new CR-25 Check Transport, an economical, compact check scanner to complement the Company’s growing portfolio of check transport solutions.

Ideal for Remote Deposit Capture such as payroll offices, retailer back-office space, corporate account receivables departments or retail checkout counters, the Canon CR-25 Check Transport is compact and offers simple, high-quality image capture for reliable and easy electronic check processing.

“The CR-25 provides a solution to Canon customers looking for an economical check transport that combines high-quality image capture with ease of use,” said Mark Machida, director of the Image Filing Systems Division for Canon U.S.A. “The CR-25 is designed to satisfy merchant and corporate operations looking to facilitate remote electronic check transactions with banks, providing a reliable and high-quality check image.”

The Canon CR-25 Check Transport can help reduce the barrier to electronic check clearance in the U.S., allowed by the Check Truncation Act – also known as the Check Clearing for the 21st Century or Check 21 Act – passed by Congress in October 2004. The Check 21 Act makes clear that its purpose is to facilitate truncation, which means to create digital images of both sides of a check for processing purposes. The CR-25 provides full-compliance with international standards for reading MICR characters, including CMC7 and E13B.

Canon’s CR-25 model is capable of scanning batches of up to 50 checks, automatically routing MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) data, at speeds of up to 25 checks-per-minute (cpm)i. As with the Canon CR-Series check transports, a pre-scan endorser further expedites the check routing and clearing process.

The CR-25 Check Transport provides users with a choice of scanning modes including black-and-white, grayscale or color, at resolutions of up to 300 dpi. Canon’s image processing technology, including advanced text enhancement and color dropout, emphasizes letters and signatures on illustrated or lightly colored check backgrounds for greater contrast and legibility.
