RIO DE JANEIRO — Harris Corporation has introduced the RF-300W -- a lightweight, high-speed broadband Ethernet radio for military, homeland security and public safety personnel. The RF-300W provides unprecedented connectivity, throughput and reliability for wide-area communications systems in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations.

Designed exclusively for network-centric operations, the RF-300W securely transfers Internet Protocol (IP) traffic over distances of up to 50 kilometers under clear line-of-sight conditions in fixed point-to-point configurations. The radio supports an impressive overall throughput in excess of 70 Mbps. Transmissions can be secured via embedded 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption, or through the use of an external Ethernet Inline Network Encryption (INE) device. Weighing less than 5 pounds (2.3 kilograms), the RF-300W is an easily deployable alternative to traditional, more costly microwave radio solutions.

“The RF-300W is a next-generation high-capacity line-of-sight radio, providing a reliable and secure wireless infrastructure that can deliver more real-time information to our customers,” said Steve Marschilok, vice president and general manager of International Products and Systems, Harris RF Communications Division. “RF-300W users will enjoy faster and more seamless access to voice, messaging, imagery, video and other bandwidth-intensive information.”

Operation in NATO Band IV (4.4 to 5.0 GHz), coupled with extensive security and traffic-flow encryption features, makes the system an excellent fit for long- and short-haul, high-capacity line of sight communications in fixed and at-the-halt configurations. For first responders, the supported frequency spectrum includes coverage of the 4.9GHz Public Safety and Emergency First Responder band. This makes the readily deployable RF-300W an ideal solution for applications such as natural disaster response, emergency response, incident management and remote video surveillance.
