Humphreys Checks In with the Clarets

Burnley Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of England U21 defender Bashir Humphreys on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy from Chelsea.*

The 21-year-old, who can play centre-back and left-back, will now add to the defensive ranks for the 2024/25 campaign.

After joining Burnley, Humphreys said: “It feels great! It’s an amazing club! It makes so much sense for the next step in my career.”

Born in Exeter, Humphreys began his early football days with the Reading academy before joining Chelsea’s set-up at U15 level.

After being rewarded with a scholarship ahead of the 2019/20 season, the defender progressed through the academy system and featured for the U18s and U21s before signing a first professional contract in 2021.

Humphreys made his Chelsea first team debut in January 2023 in an FA Cup tie against Manchester City and featured in a Carabao Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon last season at Stamford Bridge.

The youngster, who has represented England from U16 level all the way to U21 level, spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan with Bundesliga 2 side SC Paderborn, before spending last season in the Championship with Swansea City.
