TCS Highlights Xypoint® Supl Server For A-GPS During CTIA Wireless 2007

Booth 3777, CTIA Wireless 2007- Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, FL – TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NasdaqGM: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless data solutions, today announced the availability of its Xypoint® Secure User Plane for Location (SUPL) Server. The Company will demonstrate the TCS Xypoint SUPL Server capabilities during CTIA Wireless 2007. The SUPL Server conforms to the standard for Internet Protocol (IP)-based Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) location as defined by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). The OMA standard uses a network’s existing IP infrastructure to pass data between the Mobile Set (MS) and an A-GPS server to support next-generation location-based services (LBS).
The Xypoint SUPL Server supports OMA SUPL 1.0 standard to enable such innovative location services as navigation, fleet tracking and mobile marketing. TCS continued to show its leadership in Assisted GPS at the OMA SUPL Interoperability Test Fests held in 2006 that demonstrated the ability of the Xypoint SUPL Server to interact with handsets, using the SUPL standard protocols, as well as generate a location fix from a network server (MS-assisted fix) or within the handset (MS-based fix). TCS’ successful performance at the Test Fests represents an important opportunity for Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) operators around the world to provide location services for public safety, child-finding, fleet tracking, locating points of interest and navigation. TCS provides Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)-based A-GPS precise location fixes for over 25 mobile operator networks around the world for public safety and commercial uses.
As one of the only companies to offer both hosted and in-network location solutions, TCS’ turnkey SUPL Server solution can be deployed within the operator’s network or provided as a service from one of TCS’ TL-9000 certified hosting facilities. With either approach, TCS can supply the entire location-based solution: a precise location engine; the Xypoint Location Platform to support privacy, roaming and billing; the Xypoint Mapping Server to provide maps, routes and location-sensitive points of interest; the Xypoint Reference Network to provide global assistance data needed for rapid precise location calculations; and a broad suite of applications. TCS’ roaming solution allows an operator to provide location fixes for its customers when they roam into other standards-compliant operator networks.

“TCS continues to lead the advancement of location-based services and demonstrates how the use of location technology provides important services and saves lives,” said Drew Morin, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for TCS. “TCS provides tracking and navigation services to operators, enabling them to offer consumers the innovative location services that enhance their lifestyles and foster loyalty to their wireless service providers.”
TCS’ Xypoint product suite offers carrier-grade high availability and reliability over a wide range of networks, including GSM, CDMA, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and UMTS.
”OMA has brought together contributions from across the mobile industry value chain to create many location specifications,” commented Fred Harrison, Vice Chair of the OMA and Chair of the OMA Interoperability Program. “As an OMA member and continuing Test Fest participant, TCS and all of the members of OMA are supporting the wide adoption and use of location-based products and services – agnostic of bearer networks, on any device and from any geographic region around the globe.”
TCS’ award-winning Xypoint Location Platform has a long history of providing reliable location service to wireless operators. Additionally, TCS’ proven GPS experience and successes in the location arena include 12 location patents and 60 location patents pending.

TCS will be demonstrating the Xypoint SUPL Server at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) Wireless 2007, the wireless industry’s largest international tradeshow, March 27-29, 2007 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, FL.
