In recent years, building managers and property owners in Puerto Rico have had to deal with disasters ranging from a widespread power outage to tropical storms, hurricanes and the pandemic.

The 42nd annual Building Safety Month takes place this May. The month of recognition is celebrated in Puerto Rico and across the rest of the United States. The theme for 2022 is “Safety for All: Building Codes in Action.”

Building Safety Month is supported by the nonprofit International Code Council and many partners. A major area of focus during the event includes educating people about understanding disaster mitigation. In recent years, building managers and property owners in Puerto Rico have had to deal with disasters ranging from a widespread power outage to tropical storms, hurricanes and the pandemic.

2022 weekly campaign themes include:

  • Week 1 - Planning for a Safe & Sustainable Tomorrow
  • Week 2 - Exploring Careers in Building Safety
  • Week 3 - Understanding Disaster Mitigation
  • Week 4 - Creating a Safe & Abundant Water Supply

“Building managers play a key part in ensuring the health and safety of all building occupants,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental. “This includes indoor environmental quality and infection control. For the past 20 years, Zimmetry Environmental has been an advocate of Building Safety Month. Our industrial hygiene, building science and infection control professionals work to provide optimal conditions in residential, commercial and institutional properties in Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean.”

Zimmetry’s experts offer testing, monitoring and consulting services for biological, chemical and radiological pollutants; infectious pathogens; and asthma triggers, allergens and respiratory irritants. Their building assessments determine the effectiveness of infection control efforts, HVAC system filtration, contaminant control in building water systems, and identifying conditions that could lead to mold growth. Zimmetry is also regularly called upon to investigate dangers associated with asbestos, lead-based paints and other exposure risks. If a problem is discovered, Zimmetry can help to eliminate or mitigate the concern.
