“The Adventures of Itty Bitty Bunny and the Coyotes” by Roger A. Sedjo will be displayed at the Los Angeles Times Festival of books on April 23-24, 2022, at the University of Southern California campus, Los Angeles, CA.

This story is about Itty Bitty Bunny and his sister, Ballerina, who live with their family on the edge of the desert near a golf course. Ballerina wears her tutu all the time as she has just started learning ballet, while Itty Bitty practices tennis at the golf club. Mostly, the siblings play all day in the desert where two coyotes are present. These coyotes are named Clever and Cunning, they are very tricky, and they want to eat the bunnies. The coyotes are not afraid because they can run very fast and always get away. The coyotes develop a trick to catch the bunnies. But the bunnies are too smart and getaway. Later the bunnies save one of the coyotes and they all become great friends.

This book was inspired by the author’s early years with his two children, Becky and Scotty. Bedtime was always on the verge of being hectic because neither of them did not want to go to sleep, even as they grew exhausted and irritable. The stories proved to be the answer. Roger came up with Itty Bitty bunny as a result. They needed a girl, and Ballerina fit perfectly with her ballet tutu because Becky had recently started dancing classes. To complete the team, Clever and Cunning coyotes were required. Like a coyote, one of the family dogs stepped in when needed. Although the plot varied from night to night, the dynamic remained almost unchanged.

The stories were highly effective at lulling the children to sleep, especially when the storyteller would stop telling the story if anyone became too agitated or opened their eyes during the telling. Finally, because they now reside in the southwest, the desert setting is ideal.
