Gardening Express, the Chelmsford based Internet Garden Centre group is delighted to announce they are working with Carroll’s Heritage Seed Potatoes, and they will be a Mail Order distributor for these unusual seeds - traditional varieties of the humble spud, that can produce an extra tasty plate of bangers and mash!

With names such as Edzell Blue and Pink Fir Apple these are no ordinary potatoes – something really different and unusual - they’ve got the potential to produce a patriotic plate of chips in Red, White & Blue.

Lucy Caroll, of Caroll’s Heritage Potatoes, the Northumberland based company that have an arrangement with Gardening Expressas as their exclusive distributor said “we grow over 17 varieties of Heritage Potatoes. Each one specially grown to provide you with gourmet eating qualities - excellent flavours, textures, colours, shapes, and a taste of history – unlike normal potatoes, some even have brightly coloured flesh!”

Gardening Express were already selling seed potatoes in regular varieties last year when they approached Carroll’s following a tip off from a well-known chef and customer. After a few discussions and taste tests, Carroll’s finally gave in and decided to start providing seed potatoes of the special varieties for gardeners to enjoy growing at home.

Chris Bonnett, founding Director of Gardening Express commented “We’re delighted to welcome Carroll’s heritage potatoes into our ever growing stable of products. The beauty of these is that they provide a full crop and need no special care. Our competitors only offer a few of the varieties as plug plants, which are much more expensive, and also only yield a handful of spuds if you’re lucky. We’re also doing our bit to preserve our national heritage and traditional varieties at the same time, as many of the varieties are on the endangered list”.

The seed potatoes are officially certified by DEFRA and are available online from www.GardeningExpress.co.uk priced at 4.99 a pack, or by calling 08000 33 61 61.

About Carolls’ Heritage Potatoes
Carroll’s Heritage Potatoes began before the start of the Millennium in Lucy and Anthony Carroll’s small kitchen garden! They enjoyed growing, cooking and eating these unusual varieties, so in 2002 decided to grow 6 varieties on a 5 acre plot, and share their enthusiasm with the public and sell them at the local Farmer’s Market in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The business has grown, and is now growing 20 different varieties on approximately 50 acres. They are sold directly to customers, and are stored, graded, packed and distributed locally, regionally, and Internationally from the Farm, which offers a fully traceable food Production system. Seed potatoes for home gardeners are available direct or exclusively online from Gardening Express.

About Gardening Express
The idea for Gardening Express was conceived in the late 1990’s by Chris Bonnett, whilst still a teenager, after he decided it would be a fantastic idea to combine his passion of the great outdoors and plants with the Internet. Over time, Chris created and built up the business, whilst studying for a degree at Writtle College, world-renowned in the world of horticulture. Since graduating 2 years ago and concentrating on developing the business full time, Chris has turned the firm into the UK’s second largest online garden centre, with an eye firmly on the number one spot.
