Railpool, one of the leading rail vehicle rental companies in Europe, and Siemens Mobility signed a framework agreement at the turn of the year for the delivery of 100 locomotives. The first call for 70 locomotives was placed at the signing of the contract. The various locomotive variants will be used on different European rail corridors (north-south and east-west) and can be operated in up to 18 countries. Railpool previously ordered 20 Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility last year.

“This major order confirms our successful partnership with Railpool and the excellent quality of our locomotives. By ordering the Vectron MS, Railpool has not only opted for a very powerful and highly reliable locomotive, but chose a multi-system version that will be able to provide cross-border rail transport without changing locomotives. This will ensure maximum operational flexibility for our customer and enable them to react quickly to changing market conditions,” said Albrecht Neumann, CEO Rolling Stock of Siemens Mobility.

“It’s becoming more and more important for our customers to be able to use their locomotives flexibly based on the needs in different European countries. With the purchase of additional Vectron locomotives with universal applicability, we are responding to these market needs and are also sending a positive and ecofriendly signal in a growing railway sector,” said Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool GmbH.

The Vectron locomotives ordered by Railpool have a maximum power at wheel of 6.4 megawatts and a top speed of 200 km/h. They are also equipped with the required national train control systems and the European Train Control System (ETCS).

Siemens Mobility has sold 1,270 Vectron locomotives to a total of 61 customers. To date, the locomotives have covered more than 500 million fleet kilometers and are approved for operation in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey.
