easyJet launches new standalone large cabin bag option

• easyJet is now selling a large cabin bag as a standalone option for customers
• The new option provides more customers with the choice to bring extra cabin baggage on board, without booking a specific seat or fare
• To simplify baggage options the airline will no longer offer its Hands Free service
• Large cabin bag prices start from £5.99

easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, has announced that it has introduced a new cabin bag option for customers. Large cabin bags are now available for customers to add to their flight booking as a standalone option, providing more customers with the choice to bring extra luggage on board, and the flexibility to do so without the need to book a specific seat or fare.

Large cabin bags were previously available to customers who booked Up Front and Extra Legroom seats, as well as for easyJet Plus cardholders and FLEXI fare customers. Now, customers can add a large cabin bag to their flight booking as a standalone option, providing them with the choice to bring a large cabin bag on board without the need to book an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat, or as an alternative if these seats are booked up.

Prices for a large cabin bag start from £5.99 and include Speedy Boarding, meaning customers will be among the first to board their flight. Customers can now add a large cabin bag to their flight via the mobile app today, and on easyJet.com in the coming weeks.

Now the airline has introduced another option for more customers to bring a large cabin bag on board, to simplify the range of luggage choices available it will no longer be offering its Hands Free service, which provided the option for a large cabin bag to travel in the hold. Any customers who have already booked or have a voucher for Hands Free for any future flights will of course still be able to use the service.

Last year easyJet introduced its new cabin bag policy to reduce queue times during boarding as well as other delays associated with putting excess cabin bags in the hold. This has resulted in improved punctuality across the network and is providing customers with confidence of what bags they’ll have with them on board.

All easyJet customers can bring a small cabin bag on board free of charge to go under the seat in front, for all the essentials for their journey or enough for a short trip.

The maximum sizes of easyJet’s small under seat cabin bag (45x36x20cm) and large overhead cabin bag (56x45x25cm) remain among the most generous for air travel and there continues to be no weight limit for any cabin baggage.

easyJet customers can also bring some additional items with them into the cabin free of charge such as medical equipment, an umbrella, walking stick and a bag of duty-free shopping, as well as family items. Baby changing bags are free to bring on board in addition to cabin bag allowance and infants with booked seats and children over two years old continue to have the same cabin bag and hold luggage allowance as adults. Families can also bring two items for free in addition to their cabin bag allowance including a travel cot, pushchair, double pushchair, buggy, car seat, collapsible or non-collapsible pram, booster seat and/or baby back carrier. If they need to use any of these to get to the boarding gate they’ll be collected before boarding the plane and put in the hold for free to collect at the baggage carousel on arrival. If these items are within the dimensions of the large overhead cabin bag (56x45x25cm) they can go on board if there is room or checked into the hold for free at the gate.

easyJet also has a range of hold bag options which enables customers to purchase up to three hold bags for each traveller on the booking, including children and infants. A standard hold bag is 23kg and customers can buy extra weight in 3kgs units on easyJet.com up to a maximum of 32kg per bag. If customers are travelling with family or friends on the same flight and booking, they can pool their total weight allowance. A 15kg bag option is also available. All easyJet holidays continue to include 23kg of hold luggage per person as standard.
