Cinnaminson, New Jersey – WEBWIRE

September is known as National Preparedness Month (NPM). The time of recognition has taken place annually since 2004 when the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated the first NPM. It is designed to educate and encourage people from across the United States to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, institutions, and communities.

The theme for this year’s National Preparedness Month is Prepare to protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love. Preparing for a disaster includes being ready for events such as natural hazards which could include floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and earthquakes; health hazards such as widespread and serious illnesses like COVID-19 or the flu; human-caused hazards including accidents and acts of violence; and even technology-related hazards such as power outages and equipment failures.

“Being prepared is especially crucial for businesses since according to Ready.gov, up to 40% of businesses affected by a natural or human-caused disaster do not reopen,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “A key component of being prepared is having access to testing services and supplies to be able to identify indoor and outdoor environmental hazards that may be present after a disaster. These could include chemical, radiological, and biological threats. At EMSL, our network of industrial hygiene and environmental laboratories located across the United States and Canada provide that resource. Along with laboratory testing services, we offer sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, air monitoring instruments, personal protective equipment, building inspection tools, and more.”
