Recognizing Safe + Sound Week in Puerto Rico to Protect the Health and Safety of All Workers

Safe + Sound Week takes place from August 9^th through the 15^th this year. It is the fifth annual week of recognition by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a coalition of safety organizations and thousands of businesses. Each supports the concept that every workplace should have a safety and health program that includes management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards.
 
It is also an opportunity for OSHA and partners to share information and ideas on ways to keep workers safe. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the rate of worker deaths and reported injuries in the United States has decreased by more than 60 percent in the past four decades since the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act was passed. However, every year, more than 5,000 workers are killed on the job (a rate of 14 per day), and more than 3.6 million suffer a serious job-related injury or illness.
