The Covid-19 pandemic worsened unemployment in Brazil and increased the number of people in line with extreme poverty. To help families that are in a vulnerable state, this week Petrobras will start donating 180 thousand basic food baskets. The donation totals R $ 22.7 million invested and will benefit, in total, 60 thousand families, in 10 states of the country, who will receive the donation for three months. In order to define the contemplated families, a previous mapping was carried out in neighboring communities of the company’s refining and natural gas operations units and data from registrants in the Single Registry for the Federal Government’s social programs.

“These basic food baskets will help communities neighboring our operations in this still critical period of the pandemic. We understand the population’s difficulties and look for ways to help alleviate the situation ”, says the executive manager for Social Responsibility at Petrobras, Olinta Cardoso.

The action will be carried out by Petrobras and non-profit partner institutions, which will receive funds from the company to purchase and deliver groceries to families, following all prevention protocols to Covid-19. Depending on the location, families may also be served with the distribution of cards for the purchase of food at local stores previously registered.

“With the acquisition of baskets in local commerce, we strengthened small entrepreneurs, who were also very affected by the pandemic”, concludes Olinta.

OTHER INITIATIVES

Petrobras has been carrying out a series of voluntary actions to support society in facing the Covid-19 pandemic. For example, donations of diagnostic tests, PPE, hospital equipment and fuel were donated, aiming to supply ambulances, vehicles for transporting health teams and generators of public hospitals that serve patients with Covid-19.

For 2021, Petrobras started donating 2,500 oxygen cylinders to benefit state health departments. So far, Amazonas, Bahia, Paraná, Ceará and Rio Grande do Sul have received cylinders. The company also invested in the acquisition of 12 oxygen mini-plants to supply public hospitals, with the capacity to supply about 20 ICU beds each. The states where the plants will be installed follow the same criteria adopted for the donation of oxygen cylinders: they have Petrobras operations units and criticality of the contamination and mortality rates by Covid-19.

The amount allocated by Petrobras for these voluntary actions to support society in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic has already reached R $ 100 million. Part of the amount approved for carrying out these actions comes from funds recovered by Petrobras in a recently signed leniency agreement.
