Cisco and Nokia Bring Communication Efficiencies to European Businesses
Latest Nokia Eseries devices Integrated with Cisco Unified Communications to Enhance Joint Enterprise Mobility Solution
Customer field trials at Volvo Trucks France and Elitfönster in Sweden demonstrate benefits to businesses
3GSM World Congress, BARCELONA, February 12, 2007 - Cisco® today announced enhancements to the Enterprise Mobility Solution from Cisco and Nokia with the addition of the latest Nokia Eseries smartphones, Nokia E61i and Nokia E65, to help businesses improve productivity and efficiency by extending the rich set of office communications features from the Cisco Unified Communications family of products to a greater range of mobile devices operating across multiple networks. The Enterprise Mobility Solution is a fixed-mobile converged (FMC) Internet Protocol (IP) communications solution featuring Nokia dual mode business-optimized devices and Cisco wireless IP communications infrastructure.
Volvo Trucks France, working with Cisco and Nokia, commenced beta field trials of the Enterprise Mobility Solution in January at its central marketing operation, with plans to roll out the solution to up to 300 users across 30 sales and customer service sites in France.
Yves Blanchet, infrastructure manager of the ISIT organisation at Volvo Trucks France said: "The most important benefit for Volvo Trucks of the Cisco-Nokia solution is that it is possible for us to have one device for everything. It gives us a new approach to working when all business communications services, whether fixed or mobile, voice, messaging and e-mail, can be brought to the user simply and efficiently. At the same time, we can reduce costs by routing more calls over our privately-owned network"
During the field trials, Volvo Trucks tested a range of capabilities including battery life and the operation of the Cisco IP communications functionality on the Nokia Eseries smartphones. Further tests are planned to deliver wireless access to e-mail for senior managers. Yves Blanchet added: "The Nokia E61 has been working perfectly in our trials, switching to the GSM network when off campus and automatically reconnecting to the wireless LAN when on campus. Once the trials are complete, we would like to start the rollout as soon as possible"
Elitfönster, Sweden’s largest window manufacturer, has also commenced field trials of a managed service from TeliaSonera. The solution is based on a hosted Cisco Unified CallManager system with Nokia Eseries devices at the Elitfönster head office in Vetlanda.
Martin Ivarsson, IT manager at Elitfönster said: "We are currently testing the solution and we believe this will increase the flexibility of working. Today we are using a DECT-system at our factory plants in Lenhovda and Vetlanda, but moving forward we are more likely to invest in voice over wireless LAN as an on-site mobility solution"
"With managed services we take on the full responsibility for the total telecommunication need for an enterprise" said Jukka Leinonen, senior vice president, Product Management & Development of Integrated Enterprise Services, TeliaSonera AB. "We were the first European operator to conduct trials with Nokia and Cisco and are very pleased that we will be the major partner to bring this exciting solution to the Nordic region"
"Our new Nokia Eseries devices have excellent voice capabilities, the Nokia E65 in particular has been optimized for business voice. Customers like Volvo Trucks and Elitfönster can, by way of Nokia Eseries devices and the integrated Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Cisco solution, experience the functionality of the corporate telephony system on their mobile devices. Additional benefits can be obtained from the enhanced cost control and least-cost routing capabilities of the solution. Nokia E65, with its dedicated One Touch keys on the front cover to access conference call, contacts database and call muting, is an example of how we’ve made enterprise voice easy for businesses" said Tom Furlong, Vice President, Nokia Enterprise Solutions.
Barry O’Sullivan, vice president, Unified Communications Business Unit, Cisco, added: "Volvo Trucks and Elitfönster are great examples of how organisations can extend the value of their investment in Cisco Unified Communications to a wide variety of endpoints including Nokia Eseries smartphones. By bringing an open approach to the solution, Cisco offers customers ease of integration with business processes and applications and wider choice of smart devices that will streamline communications and improve business efficiency"
