Christie’s is pleased to present its Spring Photographs auctions, taking place live and online from 25 March – 8 April. The live auction of Photographs will take place at Christie’s New York on April 6, and will offer a breadth of works by the most influential photographers of both the 20th and 21st Centuries. Complementing the live auction, will be Ansel Adams and the American West, an online-only auction dedicated to the work of Ansel Adams, open for bidding between 25 March – 8 April.

ANSEL ADAMS AND THE AMERICAN WEST | ONLINE | 25 MARCH – 8 APRIL

Ansel Adams and the American West is an online, monographic sale focusing on the work of one of the most renowned and beloved 20th century photographers. Ansel Adams captured the American landscape in an unforgettable manner and out of a deep love of nature. This sale will feature works coming from various owners, including a selection that is the last of three planned groups of prints being sold in association with Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, Tucson — an invaluable institution of which Adams was a founding member; proceeds for these lots go to establish an acquisition fund for the Center.

The Photographs sale will feature property by significant 20th century photographers including Diane Arbus, Peter Beard, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Constantin Brâncuși, Robert Mapplethorpe and Irving Penn alongside contemporary artists such as Marco Breuer, Nick Brandt, Alex Prager, Alec Soth and Hiroshi Sugimoto, among others.

Among the collections featured in the sale will be a section of works from a private American collector with an emphasis on influential 20th century street photography by Diane Arbus, Louis Faurer, Robert Frank and others. The department is also proud to spotlight a section of works made by women photographers active in the field today.
