WEBWIRE

LONDON, January 18, 2007 - The National Magazine Company, Hearst Corporation’s principal business in the UK, announces the appointment of Clare Gogerty as the new editor of Coast. Clare is currently deputy editor of The Sunday Times’ monthly homes magazine, insideout. Susy Smith has been editor of Coast since its acquisition in July 2005. She will continue as editor-in-chief of the magazine with Clare reporting to her. Susy is also editor of Coast’s sister magazine Country Living.

NatMag will be publishing Coast monthly from February this year, and Clare will be appointing a full editorial team to produce the increased number of issues.

Jessica Burley, managing director, NatMag comments: “We are delighted to be welcoming Clare to NatMag. Clare joins us with great credentials and a natural understanding of Coast and its readers. She is the ideal person to continue the admirable progress achieved by Susy Smith since its acquisition nearly two years ago. Following Susy’s achievement it was a natural step to start publishing monthly - Clare’s appointment and the editorial team she recruits will ensure the continued success of Coast, as a monthly magazine.”

Susy Smith, editor-in-chief, Coast comments: “Clare’s instinctive understanding of the Coast ethos will endear her to both staff and readers. Her experience in lifestyle magazines and of working with small teams on new launches will prove invaluable as we grow Coast for the future. It could have been a tough job to hand over the day to day running of this exceptional magazine but Clare’s combination of experience and passion will make it a pleasure.”

Clare comments: “I am thrilled and privileged to be appointed as editor of such a unique and beautiful magazine as Coast. It is a magazine whose time has come and I very much look forward to working with Susy Smith to develop it as it makes the move to ten issues per year.”

Prior to joining insideout, Clare was editor of Grand Designs magazine and production and copy chief on In Style. Clare previously worked at NatMag as chief sub editor on Esquire.
