Edward Lee Smith is a retired lieutenant colonel who spent more than two decades in the US Army and National Guard.

He graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration.

Smith has over forty years of military and business experience in many areas including education and marketing.
