“Kang-Ning Junior College of Medical Care and Management” Adopts Juniper Networks SSL VPN Solution for E-Campus Information Security

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 9, 2007 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that Taiwan’s Kang-Ning Junior College of Medical Care and Management (Kang-Ning) has secured its E-Campus administration system via a Juniper Networks secure remote access solution. The new E-Campus administration system allows staff and students to access information in a secure network environment, including online services for administration procedures, official documentation requests, email, leave requests, course selection and grade results query, and is enabled by Juniper’s SA 4000 Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Networking (SSL VPN) platform.

“The new SSL VPN platform builds on our existing Juniper Networks security solution,” said Min-Ju Ching, Kang-Ning’s CIO. “A Juniper Networks NetScreen 500 firewall and Juniper Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) 600 appliance have been vigilantly protecting our information systems and applications from hackers and malware for the past four years and our decision to go with the new Juniper Networks secure remote access solution is based on the products’ excellent performance. We were particularly impressed by the SA 4000’s comprehensive Layer 4 through 7 functionality.”

Kang-Ning’s remote access solution was designed and deployed by Top Secure, one of Taiwan’s leading information security systems integrators.

“We recommended Juniper’s SA 4000 appliance because of its excellent market leading SSL VPN technology and seamless firewall and IDP integration, reducing administration overhead and allowing Kang-Ning to fully benefit from the combined solution,” said Hsiu-Hsiung Liu, Project Technical Manager, Top Secure.

Kang-Ning, founded in 1968, is one of Taiwan’s most prestigious medical education institutions. Since its expansion as a Junior College in 1996, Kang-Ning has made consistent progress in digitizing its operations, including improving administration efficiency and facilitating the distribution of course materials. The new E-Campus administration system is Kang-Ning’s most advanced project yet and is in line with the College’s goals to strengthen information security.

As part of Juniper Networks’ comprehensive portfolio of Secure Access appliances, the SA 4000 platform protects the information in transit from Kang-Ning’s servers to remote users by establishing VPN sessions encrypted with SSL technology. Juniper’s firewall and IDP appliances further monitor and manage the remote link against hacking attempts into Kang-Ning’s internal systems.

The SA 4000 also protects Kang-Ning’s information system with identity-driven access specified by user group and role, as well as by network, device, and session attributes. Endpoint-checking validates the integrity of connecting devices for the absence of malware, and granular resource-based authorization and fine-grained authentication, auditing and logging further ensure only specific network resources can be accessed by appropriate parties. The Juniper Networks Secure Access family delivers full-featured secure access with low total cost of ownership, high-performance and scalability.

According to research analyst Infonetics, Juniper Networks’ SSL VPN product portfolio has consistently held the #1 market position for the worldwide SSL VPN market since inception of the market category.

“Secure remote access is enhancing the ability of Greater China educational institutions to provide timely access to the right resources for students,” said Eric Yu, Juniper’s vice president of Greater China. “Juniper Networks secure access solutions are enabling schools to leverage this important innovation while managing the risks associated with diffuse Internet connectivity and without prohibitive capital or operational overhead.”
