Panasonic Launches "Reboot Space" to Elevate Its Nonresidential Space Solutions Business that Improves Air and Water Quality

Co-creating new experiences and values for "air and water quality" with customers

Osaka, Japan  – WEBWIRE

Panasonic Ecology Systems Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Panasonic) proposes ways to improve “air and water quality” in nonresidential spaces such as offices, shops, hotels, schools, and hospitals. On August 5, the company launched the “Reboot Space,” a space to come together with its customers to co-create new experiences and values for nonresidential spaces, on its premises in Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture. With this new initiative, Panasonic will amplify its efforts to offer solutions for nonresidential spaces that improve “air and water quality” and expand its business.

In recent years, there has been growing concern for air quality due to PM2.5 and pollen. Moreover, buildings are becoming increasingly air tight and super-insulated and have taken steps towards zero emissions, so there is rising demand for better air and water quality to improve comfort, health, and energy efficiency. People are looking for holistic solutions that, of course, address the basics like dust and pollutants, but also have additional features such as superior air and water quality for greater comfort and better health, as well as lighting, sounds, and visual content.

Since its predecessor, Kawakita Denki Kigyosha, began mass producing and selling AC electric fans in Japan back in 1913, Panasonic has dedicated more than a century to environmental businesses that improve air and water quality. It has developed home appliances and residential facilities such as ventilation, air purifiers as well as air purifiers for larger environments such as tunnels and water treatment. Going forward, the company will leverage this experience to offer solutions for nonresidential spaces.

The newly established “Reboot Space” will propose solutions that create new experiences and values for nonresidential spaces by mainly focusing on improving air and water quality, but by also combining lighting, sounds, and visual content. By having owners and designers of nonresidential spaces like offices and commercial facilities come and experience the solutions, Panasonic hopes to gain valuable feedback, which can be brought to life and presented in the “Reboot Space.”

Panasonic will also transform these solutions into businesses by working with partners in charge of design, construction, and maintenance. Gaining further feedback from the market, Panasonic will use the know-how and continue to update these experiences and values and to expand its nonresidential space solutions business.

  1. Panasonic has created a space for proposing new experiences and values that improve “air and water quality” with its technologies.

  3. Panasonic will acquire know-how through the Reboot Space and apply it to its air and water quality solutions for nonresidential spaces.

Characteristics of the “Reboot Space”

  1. Panasonic has created a space for proposing new experiences and values that improve “air and water quality” with its technologies.

Comfort changes significantly depending on the temperature, humidity, and air flow, which are conditions that affect air quality. Furthermore, depending on the scene, the optimal combination of these conditions differs. At “Reboot Space,” customers will be able to experience new values for “air and water quality” of nonresidential spaces such as offices, shops, hotels, schools, and hospitals.

  2. Panasonic will co-create new experiences and values together with its customers and work with its business partners to transform these solutions into businesses.

These solutions can be tested in the Reboot Space, and Panasonic will make improvements on these solutions based on the feedback received and create new values that meet the exacting needs of customers in the nonresidential field such as owners and designers. Moreover, Panasonic will work with partners in charge of design, construction, and maintenance to propose solutions for spaces. And by having these solutions up and running in the field, Panasonic will acquire and evaluate various data and know-how.

  3. Panasonic will acquire know-how through the Reboot Space and apply it to its air and water quality solutions for nonresidential spaces.

The air and water quality technologies Panasonic gains by satisfying the needs of various customers and the network of business partners can be used to update these experiences and values and to further expand its nonresidential space solutions business.

Introduction of each space

The current “Reboot Space” is comprised of 4 spaces in which Panasonic is proposing solutions that combine lighting, sounds, visual content, etc. that are optimal for different scenes.

Immersive

The concept for this space is “smell the breeze.” It is an immersive environment created by controlling air flow and scent in sync with visual content. This directly appeals not only to people’s sight, but also to their touch and smell bringing to life a truly immersive experience.

Technologies used: a combination of technologies that control air flow + scent
The air flow will feel as though it is coming directly from the visual content, and by combining that with a technology that delivers scent with precision, the space evokes memories and stirs emotions.
In sync with visual content, the space generates “forest” and “flower” scents.

Main applications
- Entrance, lobby of commercial facilities and buildings
- Waiting lounges, etc.

Natural

The concept for this space is “listen to the water while being gently embraced by air.” It is a relaxing environment created by emitting a comfortable breeze that gently embraces you from the vertical slits, the sound of clear running water, and plants swaying in the breeze.

Technologies used: a combination of technologies that replicate a natural breeze + circulates clean water
Using a technology that replicates a natural breeze by creating a consistent, pleasing flow of air coupled with natural wind fluctuations and a system that purifies water using the same principles found in nature, these solutions create an environment that is true to nature indoors.

Key applications
- Building entrances
- Waiting lounges
- Break rooms, etc.

Concentration Support

The concept for this space is “encouraged by the breeze.” It is an environment that helps people concentrate created using the air flow, scent, and lighting.

Technology used: technology that controls the air to help people maintain their concentration
Panasonic will create an environment that helps people concentrate by combining scent that is optimal for concentration with intermittent, rhythmical air stimulation that can be directed towards specific individuals that will help keep them awake.

Key applications
- Concentration corners in offices
- Studying spaces in university preparatory schools, etc.

Clean and Safe

The concept for this space is “embraced by the breeze.” The breeze comes down from the dome shaped ceiling creating a closed space filled with clean air that contains sterilizing elements. The sounds that can be heard from the ceiling also adds reassurance.

Technologies used: a combination of technologies that control air flow + scent
The breeze from the domed ceiling contains hypochlorous acid known for its sterilizing qualities creating a closed space within an open environment.

Key applications
- Entrances and lobbies of commercial facilities
- Waiting areas in hospitals, etc.
