"The story captures the hearts of children who love to have fun and enjoy spending family time together. It engages the imagination and natural curiosity of youngsters."

They say that once an educator, always an educator. This rings true for retired school-teacher and PhD holder Sheila Vivian Holder, in a book she lovingly penned, “Samantha’s Secret Hiding Place”.

Perhaps paying homage to her hometown and childhood memories, her book is set in Sinky Bay, Southampton in Bermuda. It is tropical, languid, serene, and gratifying. The illustrations are true to authentic - the sand being pink, the landscape filled with oleanders and poinciana.
“Samantha’s Secret Hiding Place” is the story of Samantha, a young, inquisitive and resourceful girl who loves to play hide-and-seek. She is joined by her family who indulges her playfulness.

The book is big in enforcing positive family dynamics. There is no misery, conflict, or tragedy. There is only a delightful frivolity, story-telling that encourages imagination and natural curiosity in young children.

The book is ideal for children with ages between four to eight. Yet, the grown-ups can be easily transported in its world of small, secret, hiding places, to corners earmarked and rooms landmarked. It is ideal for family reading, anytime, anywhere – be it all cuddled up in bed, or adventure style underneath a huge blanket with a flashlight.

“Samantha’s Secret Hiding Place" was/will be displayed in the upcoming Word on the Street, the biggest literary event in Canada this year on June 9 in Saskatoon, September 14 in Halifax, on September 21 in Lethbridge, and lastly on September 22 in Toronto.
