Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center selects ABB solution

ReliaGear® ND switchgear satisfies project’s unique requirements

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has called on the expertise of ABB to upgrade the aging medium-voltage equipment at their on-campus substation.

Upgrading this equipment would ensure that they would be able to continue maintaining reliable power to all campus buildings that support critical activities ranging from cancer research to treatment. A major component in this project was the replacement of four existing switchgear line-ups. ABB was up to the challenge and had just the solution Roswell Park had been searching for.

One of the project challenges was that the new medium-voltage switchgear needed to fit within the tight constraints of the existing building footprint and align with the existing sub-surface conduits, while maintaining the existing electrical distribution infrastructure. ABB proposed four line-ups of ReliaGear® ND medium-voltage switchgear and SCADA panels to successfully replace the older gear, while matching up to the existing conduit stub ups. The feature set and switchgear ratings of ReliaGear® ND, along with the robust design and reliability met the detailed specification and design by CHA Engineering.

“ABB is pleased to collaborate with Roswell Comprehensive Cancer Center,” said Alessandro Palin, managing director of ABB’s Distribution Solutions business line. “ReliaGear® ND medium-voltage switchgear has the industry’s smallest footprint, so we were able to provide them with the design flexibility and system protection necessary to satisfy their unique project demands.”

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is a cancer research and treatment center and a New York State public-benefit corporation, located in Buffalo, New York. It is anticipated that the project will be commissioned in Q1 or Q2 – 2020.
