Open House December 1st – 3rd

CHICAGO, IL – November 30, 2006 – The Lake Shore Model Railroad Association announced today the hours of their 60th Anniversary Celebration Weekend – December 1, 2 and 3rd. On Friday, they will run from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm. On both Saturday and Sunday, they will run from noon to 4:00pm.

The Lake Shore Model Railroad Association, one of the oldest continuously operating clubs in the greater Chicagoland area, is located in the Calumet Field House, 9801 South Avenue G in Chicago and on the internet at www.lsmodelrr.org.

The Lake Shore Model Railroad Association traces its beginnings to 1946 when a half dozen newly discharged GIs meeting in the rear of a hobby shop on East 79th Street in Chicago set out to create a place where they could meet and run trains. By the end of the summer, 1946 the group of six located a 20 foot by 20 foot room in the wood shop of the Calumet Park Field House. After numerous relocations both within the donated wood shop and within the Park District, the model railroad found its current home today.

The Association has been featured in Model Railroad Craftsman Magazine and was on the National Model Railroad Association Convention Tour.

Over the last 40 years, the railroad association has played host to the local NMRA Division Meets on numerous occasions.

Memberships are available to the Association. Voting membership is $100/annually; associate memberships are $75/annually and youth memberships, available to children 8-18, are $45 annually.
