EMSL Analytical, Inc. is proud to announce that its corporate headquarters now offers sample collection Monday through Saturday for Private Well Testing in the state of New Jersey. EMSL’s laboratory testing services are performed in accordance with New Jersey’s Private Well Testing Act (PWTA). We have dedicated New Jersey State Certified Samplers and supporting Project Coordinators to assist clients and future customers.

Effective September 4, 2018, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) adopted amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the PWTA rules. The PWTA rules expanded testing for gross alpha and arsenic, resulting in statewide testing for both contaminants. The amendments also added the requirement for uranium testing in 12 northern counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.

On March 3, 2019, the DEP established a maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 30 parts per trillion for 1,2,3-trichloropropane (1,2,3-TCP). This standard was based upon recommendations made by the New Jersey Drinking Water Quality Institute (DWQI) and a panel of water quality experts. The analytical methods used for 1,2,3-TCP also detect ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) which have MCLs under the Federal SDWA and are also potent carcinogens and mutagens. Therefore, the PWTA was amended to require testing for EDB and DBCP as well. The full DEP rule can be found here: https://www.state.nj.us/dep/watersupply/g_reg.html.

“Clean drinking water is essential for good health,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Unlike public water supplies, private well owners are responsible for monitoring and maintaining the quality of their own drinking water. We offer Monday through Saturday collection times and a knowledgeable support staff to assist private well owners with this process.”

EMSL can also perform drinking water tests that are beyond the scope of New Jersey’s PWTA requirements. Tests for additional contaminants of concern may be added to treated water samples. Please click here to view a sample EMSL PWTA Report and to view a list of pre-packaged add-on testing panels.
