Achieve stunning panorama photographs with your mobile

Scalado’s AutoRama™ imaging software lets anyone create digital camera quality panoramic pictures

2006-11-30 - Scalado, a leading developer of mobile imaging software, has today announced the launch of its new software that transforms a simple camera phone into a device that offers the user a true digital photography experience. Scalado’s new CAPS imaging software, has a number of impressive feature modules, and AutoRama™ is one of the highlights for the budding photographer as it provides stunning panorama effects on a mobile phone, without compromising on image quality. Scalado’s software features a smart stitching technology which sews numerous images together in order to create a single, specialised photograph in a click of a button on the handset. The result is a perfect panoramic photograph that is produced automatically and within seconds.

Previously, there have been attempts from other developers to provide panorama solutions on a mobile phone, but this is clearly the first one that combines high resolution quality and simplicity of use, where even fiddly shots are made easy. The software is extremely user-friendly, and tracks the camera’s movements as the user pans from side to side. It even senses when it needs to change exposure by using the vibrate function on the handset, giving the user instant feedback as they are taking the shot.

“No photo effect is more dramatic than sweeping panoramas, and anyone that can operate the phone’s camera can create spectacular images using AutoRama,” says Mats Jacobson, CEO, Scalado. “It’s made so simple, you don’t need to be an expert as you just point and shoot as the phone automatically does the rest for you, vibrating to tell you when to take the next shot to create the perfect high-resolution multi mega pixel panorama.”

AutoRama allows you to take 10 high-resolution images in succession and features 8 different stitching modes, to enable the user to create personal photographs for every view and every occasion. The software automatically stitches the high-resolution images together to meet the desired size of photograph. With Autorama users are given the unique opportunity to view and pan over the ready panorama images instantly, wasting no time and crucially allowing you to pan and zoom over every part of the mega pixel image. The software offers simple processing and lets anyone create fantastic panoramic images, including soaring skyscrapers, vast landscapes or city skylines in one single photograph, without any digital imaging expertise.

The secret behind AutoRama is Scalado’s patented RAJPEG technology. RAJPEG is a JPEG codec technology that reduces memory requirements, processing JPEG input and output images in the compressed domain, which enable the viewing of any region of a JPEG image without the need to access the previous parts of the image. RAJPEG rapidly reduces the amount of RAM memory required by a factor of 25x while still processing full resolution mega pixel images, and increases performance and the speed for image manipulation by a factor of up to 10x. Another Scalado patent is also pending for the unique method of creating the panorama.
