Los Angeles and San Francisco Make the Top 15 List for Bed Bug Infestations

Recently, Orkin published its annual Top 50 Bed Bug Cities list and it included several major population centers in California. The highest ranking city in the state was Los Angeles (ranked 4^th) followed by San Francisco (12^th) and San Diego (49^th). The list was compiled from bed bug data from residential and commercial treatments from the pest control company’s operations spanning December 1^st of 2017 through November 30^th of 2018.

“According to a 2018 survey conducted by the National Pest Management Association, the three top locations where bed bugs are discovered include homes; apartments and condominiums; and hotels and motels,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “In the news release of the top 50 cities it was also reported that hotels spend an average of more than $6,300 per bed bug incident. This dollar figure highlights the economic impact these tiny insects can have on a business that suffers an infestation.”

These tiny insects are experts at hiding, which can make them quite difficult to find with just a visual search. LA Testing helps to identify bed bug infestations and confirms treatment and cleanup activities.
