Nearpod Appoints Jennie Kristoffersen as First Chief Academic Officer

Kristofferson, a former Pearson executive, brings more than two decades of experience in education and edtech to the platform that’s used in 60 percent of school districts nationwide

Nearpod, the award-winning edtech company helping K-12 teachers and school districts create engaging classroom experiences, today announces the promotion of Jennie Kristoffersen as its first Chief Academic Officer. In her new role, Kristofferson will oversee the creation and management of K-12 content and professional development to combat the ongoing student engagement crisis, as well as expand the company’s efficacy and research, to continue to grow Nearpod’s position as the preferred edtech solution that merges research-based, standards-aligned content with innovative technology.

Kristoffersen joined Nearpod over a year and a half ago and, in that short time, has utilized her experience as an educator and district leader as well as her vast experience in the educational publishing market to transition Nearpod into a multi-product, comprehensive student engagement platform reaching millions of students. Since joining, Kristofferson has led the Content team to reach over 7,000 lessons within the Lesson Library with best-in-class partners such as Newsela, Desmos, PhET and Readworks. Additionally, to help districts mobilize state and district-level whole child priorities, the Content team launched a growing collection of supplemental curricula including Digital Citizenship & Literacy, College & Career Exploration, Social & Emotional Learning, English Learners, Historical Perspectives & Literacy and teacher professional development through Learning Labs.

“This promotion shows the significant contributions that Jennie has made to Nearpod in a very short period of time,” said Guido Kovalskys, CEO and co-founder of Nearpod. “We strive to empower educators to create learning experiences that engage and inspire millions of students around the world, and Jennie is dedicated to turning that mission into reality.”

Before joining Nearpod as Vice President of Content Strategy, Kristoffersen served as Pearson’s Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, where from ideation to adoption, Kristofferson successfully launched a new K-8 science core curriculum into the market – changing the way students experience science through interactive textbooks. Kristoffersen brings a wealth of academic experience from a career as a math teacher and math coordinator in the Greater Chicago Area. Further developing her executive involvement in educational technology, Kristofferson played an instrumental role in company growth as Director of Marketing at Amplify and Vice President of Marketing and Product Development at ETA hand2mind.

“I’m thrilled to move into this new role and continue Nearpod’s commitment to providing the best content and resources for teachers and school districts. I take pride in working for a company that truly cares about the teachers and students it serves, always putting them first,” Kristofferson expressed. “My previous experiences as a teacher, curriculum coordinator and curriculum thought-leader will continue to inform the ways in which we support our community of educators, as well as the standards-aligned, research-based content we create to ignite student engagement across the country.”

According to a 2018 Gallup report, 91 percent of superintendents polled agreed that student engagement is a very important indicator for measuring effectiveness in their schools. However, only 47 percent of students reported being actively engaged in the classroom. Nearpod is battling that student engagement crisis by empowering teachers and schools with interactive lessons and formative assessment tools, as well as partnerships with renowned brands like BBC Worldwide and Pulitzer Center to bring standards-aligned lessons to classrooms across the country. The platform is compatible with all web-enabled devices such as iPads, Chromebooks and laptops, and lessons can be deployed from the teacher’s device with a single click.
