Bloomberg Celebrates International Women’s Day throughout the Month of March

WEBWIRE

In recognition of International Women’s Day, Bloomberg is kicking off a series of events and initiatives to celebrate women throughout March. The effort is tied to Bloomberg’s overall commitment to the advancement of women – from cultivating a culture of inclusion internally to promoting gender equality around the world.

“At Bloomberg, International Women’s Day is more than just a day – our commitment to gender equality is year-round and is represented through a number of strategic initiatives and programs tied to advancing women globally,” said Pamela Hutchinson, Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Bloomberg. “From our groundbreaking Gender-Equality Index, which brings transparency to investment-quality data on 230 public companies, to our New Voices initiative that is boosting female representation in the news, Bloomberg is dedicated to empowering women.”

Specific programming tied to International Women’s Day include:

  • Bloomberg joined forces with UBS and State Street Global Advisors for “Girls Take Wall Street,” a program designed to inspire the next generation of female leaders. On March 1, 100 high school girls rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange and visited the Bloomberg and UBS offices.
  • Bloomberg employees will volunteer throughout March with local philanthropies dedicated to supporting women, including Dress for Success, HerCapital, Habitat for Humanity, Girls Go Tech and more.
  • Bloomberg is supporting the annual Women of the World (WOW) festival in London, which brings together women across industries to celebrate the many achievements and challenges for women and girls globally.
  • In partnership with the Asia Art Archive and M+, Bloomberg is hosting ‘Art+Feminism: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Women in Art in Asia,’ which will help improve representation of women artists on Wikipedia.
  • Bloomberg is also hosting a series of events tied to women in the FinTech industry, including a conversation on the new face of diversity in investments, a panel discussion on Brexit and tariffs led by Bloomberg Head of Economics Stephanie Flanders, internal network and career-building events, and more.
  • On March 8, Bloomberg TV and Radio will feature a majority of women guests in their programming throughout the day.

Beyond International Women’s Day, Bloomberg has a number of strategic global initiatives to support gender equality at Bloomberg, in the News, in the workplace, and around the world.

Bloomberg News has made significant strides to increase the representation of women in both online and on-air content through its New Voices initiative. Launched in 2018, the New Voices program includes the establishment of a definitive global list of women experts in finance and business, a system to track diverse sourcing, and the funding of media training for top women executives and other under-represented voices.

This year, Bloomberg launched the fourth iteration of its Gender-Equality Index, which doubled in size year-over-year to include 230 firms. The index recognizes companies that are committed to transparency in gender reporting and advancing women’s equality in the workplace.

Additionally, Bloomberg Philanthropies has long supported organizations and causes to advance gender equality. This includes public health programs for maternal health in Africa, Asia and South America, economic development for women in Sub-Saharan Africa, and mentorship programs connecting students to influential women around the world.
