Victims of wars are not only the soldiers and combatants, but civilians who supported them, as well as the innocent populace. In his second memoir, Jon Meade recounts the life, combat, and survival of Richard W. Bartz, in “Conquered in Corregidor, Unconquered as Hero.”

Richard W. Bartz was one of the valiant defenders of Corregidor, a small Island in the Philippines, in World War II. He was captured and became a prisoner of war in the Philippines and Japan. Jon Meade weaves the horrors of war in the pages of his book, as personally described by his uncle.

After Richard departed the world of the living at 52, his family recovered original manuscripts of what could’ve been a memoir titled March to Nowhere and other writings of his life, emphasizing the war. These were the materials Jon used, combined with his own observations and investigations, to complete the biography of a war hero. The book also includes Meade’s two visits to the Philippines in 2016 and his interviews and findings with Filipino veterans. The book includes 70 photos.
