More detailed advice like quoting the exact name of streets help drivers to take the right turn

Sulzbach, Germany - 7 November 2006 – NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, is supplying digital map data for the new Medion GoPal 400 series. The new Medion GoPal PNA 460, 465 and 470 systems use the software GoPal Version 2 based on NAVTEQ map data, which offer an innovative text to speech function and help navigate seamlessly throughout Western and Eastern Europe.

Where many other systems would simply give the instruction “turn left after 300 metres,” the new product series offer even more detailed, helpful advice, such as “in 300 metres turn left onto the B52, Herbert-Meier-Straße.” That’s due to the fact that the software features an upgraded text-to-speech function, giving the driver even more precise guidance thanks to phonetic data from the NAVTEQ database. However, anyone with a system from the earlier Medion GoPal range need not miss out on the latest map data – version 2 software featuring the most recent Q2/2006 NAVTEQ database release is available for, and compatible with, previous models 210, 500, 510 and 515.

Like its successful predecessor, the software includes TMC codes from the NAVTEQ database, enabling the Medion GoPals to guide drivers accurately around traffic disruptions and tailbacks. It offers outstanding user-friendliness and cross-border navigation, switching seamlessly from one national country map to the next. This cross-border access is supported by NAVTEQ’s standardised worldwide specification. Other useful features of the new products include an MP3 player, a 4.3”, 65,536 colour TFT touchscreen display, Bluetooth, a city guide and image viewing features. The PNA 470 even plays videos with crystal-clear quality on its widescreen display, providing great on-board entertainment for long journeys.

The upgraded software and the new Medion GoPals support navigation in the following countries: Andorra, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Rumania, Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK .

Medion GoPal Version 2 software and the Medion GoPal PNA 460 and 465 are available now with the GoPal 470 to follow in December.
