Thomson Reuters Legal Managed Services & Contract Express Help the Automobile Association Meet GDPR Compliance Deadline, Win British Legal Supplier of the Year Award

LONDON – WEBWIRE

Facing a critical deadline for complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Automobile Association (AA) looked to Thomson Reuters to rapidly meet its compliance requirements, and the successful project was recently recognised with a British Legal Award.

Thomson Reuters designed a unique solution, pairing its Legal Managed Services and Contract Express solutions with technology partner eBrevia and SYKE legal engineering to expeditiously tackle the association’s needs.

The AA is the UK’s largest motoring organisation, with more than fifteen million members. Facing a deadline of only eight weeks to attain GDPR compliance, the AA needed to review and amend thousands of customer, supplier, inter-company and data privacy agreements. Not meeting the deadline could have resulted in fines totalling twenty million euros or four percent of global annual revenue.

Thomson Reuters Legal Managed Services (formerly Pangea3) quickly put together an innovative, multi-faced approach combining experts in professional services, technology solutions and legal project management. They deployed artificial intelligence systems and contract automation tools to extract data from more than 2,600 files and create amendments that complied with GDPR requirements.

The project met the challenging deadline, and delivered the work at less than one-fifth the cost of competing solutions that the association had explored.

Thomson Reuters was named Supplier of the Year at the British Legal Awards for the project, recognising the contribution that suppliers make to improve the delivery of legal services.

“We were delighted with Thomson Reuters and SYKE’s innovation and end results,” said Joseph Lloyd, Head of Legal – Insurance and Financial Services, the Automobile Association. “Without their help it is doubtful that we would have been able to complete the project on time, and we would certainly have incurred very significant additional internal and external cost.”

“Meeting the many challenges of this project required a bespoke approach that combined our award-winning Legal Managed Services experts with cutting-edge technologies,” said Eric Laughlin, general manager, Thomson Reuters Legal Managed Services. “The deadline was immovable and the potential consequences – both financially and reputationally – were significant. We are proud to have delivered a solution that enabled the Automobile Association to meet its compliance deadline and remain focused on serving their members.

“Thomson Reuters has been an award-winning legal managed services leader for years,” continued Laughlin, “and is currently engaged in legal transformation initiatives with four of the top 10 market cap companies worldwide.”
