SAP Health Solution Wins Coveted Red Dot Award for Exceptional User Experience in Emergency Waiting Rooms and Outpatient Departments

WALLDORF – WEBWIRE

SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) announced that its SAP Health for Waiting Time Management solution won the prestigious Red Dot Award in the category of “Communication Design” for 2018. The excellence-in-design award was presented to SAP at the Red Dot ceremony in Berlin on October 26, 2018.

The Red Dot award for communication design is an international prize awarded by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. Prize categories include product design, design agencies and design concepts.

The SAP solution, created together with the Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch, displays information on expected patient waiting times and treatment information on monitors installed in emergency waiting rooms and outpatient departments. The goal was to reduce the stress and anxiety that many patients feel when they don’t receive sufficient, easy-to-understand information on their experience. In creating the solution, the team applied a design-thinking approach to meet the needs of both patients and hospital staff.

SAP Health for Waiting Time Management was recognized for its design and creativity in communicating waiting times to patients and others in a visually appealing format. It was chosen by 24 international jury members who reviewed some 8,600 entries from designers, agencies and companies from 45 countries.

The monitor provides unobtrusive guidance in an emotionally challenging situation by providing an easily understood overview of expected waiting times and treatment room information. Based on data from the hospital’s clinical information system and a cloud-based service, the SAP solution predicts waiting times and priority of treatment for each patient in real time. The colors and fonts of the display deliver an intuitive, attractive, informative display for everyone in the waiting room.

SAP is carving out a strong tradition in the design and development of innovative patient-centric, healthcare solutions. Previously, SAP won the coveted Red Dot Award for the SAP Medical Research Insights solution, a real-time analytics tool for clinical research. Using human-centered design and industry-leading engineering, SAP and the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) in Heidelberg developed a simple and intuitive user experience that eliminates manual processes and provides faster access to patient data for more personalized patient care.

The Red Dot Award: Communication Design has been awarding excellence in design and innovation since 1993. You can read about the award-winning SAP software project in the International Yearbook Communication Design 2018/2019, the online exhibition and the Red Dot App.
