“As the industry and our company continue to grow and evolve, it’s always been our mission to hire those that can think beyond the basics and bring innovation to our clients, drivers and the Navajo team,” states Jensen.

The Women in Trucking Association (WIT), which promotes the accomplishments and minimizes the obstacles of women in the trucking industry, recently recognized the industry’s “Top Companies for Women to Work for in Transportation”. At WIT’s 2018 Accelerate! Conference, held in Dallas, Texas November 12-14, 2018, 50 companies were named to the list after nearly 150 entries and more than 7,000 votes.

Navajo Express, a nationwide carrier, was one of the recipients of this esteemed title. In attendance to receive the award was Navajo’s Heidi Jensen, Director of HR, and Olivia Young, Director of Marketing.

“As the industry and our company continue to grow and evolve, it’s always been our mission to hire those that can think beyond the basics and bring innovation to our clients, drivers and the Navajo team,” states Jensen. “In a male dominant industry, we embrace the notion that women can contribute just as much, and in some cases more, towards our company’s goals and vision. Which is why we are beyond honored to be considered a top company for women to work for.”

Found in 1981 and with seven terminals nationwide, Navajo Express strives to bring their business partners creative shipping solutions, all while putting the driver first. With many women sitting in management positions and a driver fleet that is 10% women (a number above the national average), this is the first time Navajo has been recognized with this title.

“It’s extremely positive to see the strides that the industry is making towards the employment of more women in the trucking industry,” says Young. “With the influential efforts of WIT and the companies on this list, I have no doubt that we will continue to see an increase in the number of women in leadership positions, as well as the number of women drivers. It’s powerful to be a part of!”

The Women in Trucking Association was founded by Ellen Voie, the WIT President and CEO, in 2007. In just a few short years, through the support of thousands of transportation-related companies, drivers and dedicated individuals, this organization has made significant steps in accomplishing its mission to be a resource and advocate for women in the industry.
