thyssenkrupp Elevator is making significant steps forward in its work to create smart cities of the future, today revealing three new industry award wins for its ground-breaking MULTI elevator technology, as well as a brand-new research project with the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats (CTBUH) that explores the next frontier in urban design and planning: the sky. The project will be presented at the CTBUH Middle East Conference in Dubai taking place from October 20th – 25th. It aligns perfectly with this year’s guiding conference theme “Several Cities within a City”, as polycentric cities are in urgent need of innovative mobility solutions.

Titled ‘Skybridges: Bringing the Horizontal into the Vertical World’, the 18-month research project explores the cultural, organisational and jurisdictional challenges to creating new horizontal habitats in the sky and the potential for skybridges to provide a much-needed solution to city overcrowding and inefficiency. With Skybridges, interconnectivity between buildings will be lifted to a completely new level, enabling additional amenities for residents and tenants, advanced mobility between skyscrapers and more safety due to alternative escape routes.

thyssenkrupp Elevator actively contributes to mobility solutions that pave the way for tomorrow’s cities, such as the world’s first ropeless and sideways-moving MULTI elevator – and the expert community addressing the global urbanization megatrend recognizes this transformative innovation with prestigious recognitions. Just in time for the CTBUH Middle East Conference in Dubai, MULTI has collected three different awards: the “Internationaler Designpreis Baden-Württemberg”, the “Focus Silver” award in Germany, the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain’s Excellence Award 2018, and the “Industrial Manufacturing Excellence – Innovative Product Award 2018” awarded by the „Industrial Manufacturing Excellence • Innovation Forum 2018”.

thyssenkrupp Elevator CEO Andreas Schierenbeck comments: “These three award wins provide an important moment for our business, proving the innovative power of thyssenkrupp Elevator and the importance of our solutions for today’s and tomorrow’s urban living. Cities housing 10 million people or more need intelligent transportation systems, and we will continue to work on realising our visions by employing thyssenkrupp Elevator’s capacities and competences for future-oriented transportation concepts.”

The “Internationaler Designpreis Baden-Württemberg”, “Focus Silver” award, was presented to thyssenkrupp Elevator on October 12th in Ludwigsburg, Germany, where an animation of the cabin was also displayed. The cabin’s design concept was created by the Junior Professorship in Industrial Design Engineering at Technische Universität Dresden while the design agency neongrau created the lighting concept and the interface. Currently, the transparent lightweight cabin is displayed in the lobby of the thyssenkrupp test tower for high-speed elevators at Rottweil, Germany. Moreover, it has also been displayed at CEBIT, Germany’s leading technology fair – and is soon to be put on show at a technology company in Seattle, USA.

The German Chamber of Commerce for Spain’s Excellence Award 2018 was presented by the president of the Chamber, Javier González Pareja, to Darío Vicario, CEO of thyssenkrupp Group for Iberia at an event in Barcelona on September 27th. The Excellence Award of the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain is given to companies, individuals or institutions that have significantly contributed to the development of Spanish-German relations. In 2018, it celebrates its seventh edition. thyssenkrupp Elevator will donate the endowed prize money of € 3,000 to the non-profit organization Learning Lions.

The “Innovative Product Award 2018” in China was awarded to thyssenkrupp by the Chinese „Industrial Manufacturing Excellence • Innovation Forum 2018” on October 17th in Beijing. It is designed to recognize innovative companies that bring changes to the traditional ecosystem of Chinese manufacturing industry and to discover the most user-friendly products.

“MULTI is a truly revolutionary system with the potential to change the way our future cities look like. With our joint skybridges project we are truly connecting buildings, laying the foundation for the intelligent city. The world’s only ropeless and sideways-moving elevator system creates unprecedented possibilities and building efficiencies for the cities of tomorrow,” thyssenkrupp Elevator MULTI CEO Prof. Michael Cesarz adds.
