A Look into the Marvels of a Loon’s Life

Frankfurter Buchmese celebrates its 70^th anniversary this year, 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair, this October 10 until 14 in Frankfurt, Germany. A scheduled-for-display book for young readers is teacher and watercolor artist Kathy Henderson Pass’s “Mom and Dad Plus Baby Loon”.

Written in simple rhyme scheme, Pass introduces to readers a loving loon family residing on a New Hampshire Lake. Her stylistic approach in drawing, paired with bold colors, in the transformation of a newly hatched chick to an independent young loon helps heighten young readers’ interests.

Though written and illustrated to appeal to young children, Kathy Henderson Pass’s “Mom and Dad Plus Baby Loon” provides an enjoyable reading and learning experience for all ages.

About the Author
Kathy Henderson Pass, a teacher and watercolor artist, wrote and illustrated “Mom and Dad Plus Baby Loon” for her four young grandchildren. Pass and her family spend vacations on a lake in New Hampshire where they enjoy watching the comings and goings of a loon family and listening to their melodious calls. Other residents on the lake share their enthusiasm and enjoyment of the beautiful, contented birds.
Pass writes in rhyming form because it is pleasurable to listener and reader alike. Her bold color palette and drawing style are meant to appeal especially to a young audience.
Kathy and her husband, Len, live in the Old Saybrook, Connecticut home where they raised their three children.
