CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union to Award Cash to Youth for Reading This Summer

Credit Union’s Home Run Reading Challenge Encourages Literacy, Financial Education

Alexandria, Virginia – WEBWIRE

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union is encouraging youth to learn about personal finance and responsible money management this summer through its Home Run Reading Challenge.

Youth members age 3 to 12 are rewarded with cash for reading designated books from a list of personal finance-related books -.  Parents can download a reading log from COFCU.org, have their child read books, complete the reading log and return it to CommonWealth One by August 31, 2018 to receive their cash reward.

Participating youth will be awarded $5 for each book they complete and will earn a $5 bonus (for a total of $25) if they “hit a home run” and read at least four books.

The reward money will be deposited into the reader’s youth account at CommonWealth One. More information and the reading list are available at www.cofcu.org/reading-challenge.

More than 100 students participated in the summer reading program in its first two years, and feedback from parents has been overwhelmingly positive.

Educating youth — and all members of CommonWealth One — is a core component of the credit union’s mission. The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) has honored CommonWealth One through the Desjardins Financial Education Awards program in the youth category.
